Description de l'offre

A 3 year doctoral position is available at the Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University (HeSPeR Lab: https://www.hesper.fr/en/) to explore the underlying human and organizational factors that influence surgeons’ performance and ultimately impact patient outcomes.

The project

The TopSurgeons project, “Understanding the influence of human and organizational factors on surgeon performance to improve patient outcomes: experimental evaluation of a customized coaching program” is funded by an ERC Starting Grant 2019-2023 held by Prof. Antoine Duclos. This project aims to 1- Identify the key determinants related to a surgeon’s personal condition and/or the operating room environment that can influence his/her performance in terms of patient safety and care; 2- Develop a customized coaching program for surgeons based on the human and environmental factors previously identified, which includes profiling of individual surgeons, tailored modules of improvement and a system to monitor surgical outcomes; 3- Implement and measure the impact of this coaching program on the surgical outcomes of a randomized group of surgeons compared to a control group of non-exposed surgeons.  A unique dataset will be collected prospectively from various sources, including the routinely collected data in the hospital data warehouse, sensors worn by the surgeons, and various questionnaires (more details at: https://anr.fr/Project-ANR-17-ERC3-0001 ).

Desired profile

We are looking for highly talented and motivated applicants with a MPH or MSc. degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, the humanities or a similar scientific field. Applicants should have graduated in the last 3 years. A solid background in programming and exploratory analysis of various datasets is desired. The post-holder must be creative, rigorous and dynamic, and must be at ease working both independently and as part of a team. Excellent English skills (speaking and writing) and analytical skills are desired.

Proposed mission

The successful applicant will assist the principal investigator and the Post-Doc in the coordination, execution and valorization of scientific activities related to the project, as follows:
